Local Councils
Alfreton is covered by three tiers of local government, Alfreton Town Council, Amber Valley Borough Council and Derbyshire Councy Council.
Residents are represented by elected officials at each tier of local government as well as a Member of Parliament (MP) and Members of the European Parliement (MEP).

Alfreton Town Council
Alfreton Town Council came into being on 1st April 1984. The Town Council covers the Town of Alfreton bordered by the A38, the railway line and Alfreton Brook.
The Town Council provides a diverse range of local services for residents in Alfreton and is based in the oldest residential building in the Town – Alfreton House which dates from the mid 1600s.

Amber Valley Borough Council
Amber Valley Borough Council serves the four market towns of Alfreton, Belper, Heanor and Ripley as well as around 50 villages and hamlets. The main offices are based in the Town Hall in Ripley with smaller offices in Alfreton, Belper & Heanor.
Amber Valley Borough Council provide a wide range of local services including Planning, Building Control, Refuse & Recycling, Environmental Services, Council Tax Collection and many more.
